Logan Paul Career
YouTube Career
YouTube beginnings: 2015–2017:
Paul’s YouTube channel had built up a small following on Vine by the time he started college.
Before leaving Ohio University with a major in Industrial Engineering in 2014 to pursue a career as a full-time social media entertainer in Los Angeles, he lived in an apartment building there with other Vine stars.
Paul became well-known after joining the online video-sharing platform Vine. He had more than 3.1 million followers on various social media sites in February 2014.
By April 2014, he had accumulated 105,000 Twitter followers, 361,000 Instagram followers, 31,000 Facebook page likes, and over 150,000 YouTube channel subscribers.
In the first week after being posted, a YouTube compilation video of his Vine work received more than four million views.
He was recognized as the tenth most prominent person on Vine in 2015, and he made hundreds of thousands of dollars from advertising thanks to his six-second films.
His Facebook videos alone had received more than 300 million views by October. A combination of his first name and “gang,” Logan’s nickname for his supporters is “Logang.”
Paul had an appearance on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit at the start of 2015. Additionally, he played one of the Paul Twins on the Fox television series Weird Loners.
He appeared in two Stitchers episodes on Freeform. He co-starred with Peyton List in the 2016 YouTube Red film The Thinning.
Paul received training at the beginning of 2016 from drama teachers and the comedic groups The Groundlings and Upright Citizens Brigade.
Paul wrote the screenplay for the adult comedy Airplane Mode, which he himself referred to as “Expendables with Internet stars” and has been compared to “American Pie for Gen Z.”
The movie was supposed to be out in 2017, but it wasn’t until August 2, 2019, that it finally did. Additionally, he took part in other commercial campaigns, including those for Hanes, PepsiCo, and HBO.
In 2016, Comcast bought the short digital TV show Logan Paul VS, which Paul made.
A video starring himself and Logan Paul has been cut from, like, all of The Rock’s movies.
A video starring himself and Paul was published by Dwayne Johnson in February 2017 on his own YouTube channel.
In the video, Johnson tells Paul that he has been cut from all of Johnson’s films and comforts him by appointing him as the “ambassador” of his upcoming Baywatch feature film.
The American alternative hip hop trio Flobots’ song “Handlebars,” which Paul sampled significantly for his new single “No Handlebars,” was released on November 23, 2017.
A sequence in the music video when Paul rides a number of women like a bicycle drew harsh criticism for the song’s alleged sexualization of women.
Jamie Laurie, the vocalist for the Flobots, attacked Paul, branding him the embodiment of “douchebag entitlement” for both the song’s “sexist” lyrical content and using the sample without permission.
Later, Laurie would release “Handle Your Bars,” a song whose lyrics made fun of Paul.
Laurie’s remarks and the criticism of “No Handlebars” received no response from Paul. In 2019, Paul was sued by Flobots for copyright infringement, and as a result, he removed the song from YouTube.
Suicide forest controversy: 2017–2018
On December 31, 2017, Paul posted a vlog to his YouTube channel showing the recently deceased body of a guy who had committed suicide by hanging himself in Aokigahara, a place notorious for suicides at the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan.
Paul and his crew had planned to camp in the woods for what was supposed to be part three of his “Tokyo Adventures” series, but after discovering the dead, they decided to inform the authorities and change their plans.
After being uploaded, the film received 6.3 million views in 24 hours. Politicians and celebrities expressed their disapproval of Paul’s video that showed the corpse and his group’s responses to it.
Additionally, he was charged with being disrespectful to suicide victims by other YouTube users.
He was also criticized for other inappropriate actions he was caught doing while on the trip, such as climbing onto a moving forklift at the Tsukiji fish market; stripping off in the middle of a busy street; fighting with one of the people he was traveling with; and hurling a massive Poké ball at onlookers, including a Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department officer.
Paul’s channel was requested to be removed from YouTube by a number of Change.org petitions, the biggest of which, as of February 9, 2018, had more than 720,000 signatories.
He claimed that he had gained a lot of knowledge from his errors and that he had been handled “fairly.”
When questioned if he deserved a second opportunity, Paul said, “Bro, everyone deserves second chances.” In response, he gave suicide prevention organizations $1 million, of which a quarter will go to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
Paul hired Mike Majlak, a former marketing manager of the furniture brand LoveSac, in response to the uproar to “make sure that no terrible things happen” and assist Logan in repairing his reputation.
After a three-week break, Paul made a formal return to his daily YouTube vlogs on February 4.
According to Susan Wojcicki, CEO of YouTube, Paul did not break the three-strike rule and did not meet the requirements for a platform ban on February 12.
Maverick Apparel, a brand for juniors and kids, threatened Paul with legal action after the controversy over the suicide video because he named his clothing line “Maverick by Logan Paul,” a similar name.
The company thought consumers would mistakenly think Paul’s line was theirs, which would cause a sharp drop in sales.
Boxing, podcast, and further controversies: 2018–present
In response to Paul’s “pattern of behavior,” YouTube suspended all advertising on his channels on February 9, 2018, citing his tweet about the Tide Pod challenge, the removal of a fish from his pond to “jokingly give it CPR,” and the tasering of two dead rats.
As a result, his income was momentarily stopped, and as a result of the suspension, he started broadcasting live on Twitch.
Nevertheless, Paul’s channel was still on a 90-day “probation period,” during which time videos from his channel were not permitted to appear on YouTube’s trending tab.
Two weeks later, on February 26, YouTube reinstated adverts on Paul’s channel. The first episode of Impulsive aired on November 20, 2018.
As Paul stated on his Impulsive show in January 2019: “What’s this, a March for men only? We’re going to try to live as gay people for only one month. ”
As a result of the LGBTQ+ advocacy group GLAAD’s response to Paul’s statement on Twitter, which implied that being homosexual is a choice, he received a great deal of backlash.
Paul published what has been called a mockumentary on the Flat Earth Theory in March 2019.
In the video, he spoke at the 2018 Flat Earth International Conference, which was held in Denver, Colorado, and interviewed a number of self-described “Flat Earthers.”
For the aforementioned 2017 event in Aokigahara, when he shared a video featuring a just-passed-away suicide victim, Logan Paul was sued by Planeless Pictures in December 2020.
He was accused by Planeless Pictures of publishing the video to get out of a contract he had with them, whereby he would star in, write, and produce their movie Airplane Mode.
Additionally, they asserted that the video caused Google to halt their contract with them, leaving them $3 million in debt. Paul participated as “Grandpa Monster” in The Masked Singer’s fifth season in 2021.
He was found out after his second appearance when one of his hints was about a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Boxing career
Amateur bout (KSI vs. Logan Paul)
Following his amateur boxing contest with Joe Weller on February 3, 2018, British YouTuber KSI challenged Paul to a fight.
On February 24, 2018, it was revealed that Paul and his brother would engage in two white-collar boxing contests against KSI and his younger brother, Deji.
Two judges scored the fight evenly at 57-57, and a third judge scored it 58-57 in favor of KSI, resulting in a majority tie.
Professional career (KSI vs. Logan Paul II)
It was announced on September 4, 2019, that Paul will make his professional boxing debut in a rematch against KSI, which will be shown exclusively on DAZN in the US.
On November 9, the fight was slated to take place at the Staples Center. At the press conference for the rematch in the UK, Paul caused a commotion when he claimed that KSI had five abortions before saying, “Five infants died.
I might kill you in exchange for the favor.” While anti-abortion advocates defended him, abortion rights activists criticized him and called his comments “horrific.” I said something offensive and inappropriate, “Paul stated in response.
Six three-minute rounds made up the rematch, which was decided by a split decision in favor of KSI.
Two judges gave the fight to KSI with scores of 57-54 and 56-55, while one judge gave the fight to Paul with a score of 56-55.
Exhibition bout (Mayweather vs. Paul)
It was announced on December 6, 2020, that Paul would fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., a former five-division world champion, in an exhibition match on February 20, 2021.
When the battle finally happened, it was on June 6, 2021, at Miami Gardens, Florida’s Hard Rock Stadium.
Paul and Mayweather first interacted on May 6, 2021, at a press conference at Hard Rock Stadium, where Paul’s brother, Jake Paul, got into a heated altercation with Mayweather after taking the latter’s hat off.
On the video, a visibly furious Mayweather was heard shouting, “You motherfucker, I’ll kill you! Are you insane? You’re fucked, motherfucker. I don’t play games like that. I’ll screw you over. “
Paul started the constant clinching, which continued throughout the entire fight to the sound of jeers from the audience. No winner was declared.
The CompuBox punch statistics showed that Mayweather was a better boxer than Paul. Mayweather landed 40.2% of the 107 punches he threw, while Paul only landed 12.9% of the 217 punches he threw.
In his post-fight interview, Mayweather lauded his opponent, saying: “He’s better than I thought he was… he’s a tough, harsh competitor.” “I’m going to go home thinking, ‘Did Floyd let me survive?'” when asked if Mayweather had taken the fight seriously.
